Your child's transition
At Auriol Junior School, we understand that transitions can be both exciting and challenging for our students and their families. Whether your child is about to embark on the journey from Year 2 to Year 3 or preparing for the significant leap from Year 6 to secondary school, we are here to support and guide them every step of the way.
Transition periods are crucial milestones in a child's educational journey, and we recognise the importance of ensuring a smooth and positive experience. Our dedicated staff are committed to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment that prioritises the well-being of each student.
Below we have shared a summary of Year 2 and Year 6 transition, however if you need specific admissions information, please click here to be taken to the admissions area of the school website.
Year 2 Transition
Whether your child is joining us from The Mead Infant School (our main feeder school) or from another school, throughout their final summer term before arriving we offer a range of opportunities for your child to meet our staff and get to know the school. You and your child will have the chance to meet their new teacher, take part in activities in their new classroom and take a tour of the school! In the background, your child's Year 2 class teacher will be handing over any information to the new class teacher at Auriol so that we can best support your child. If there is anything you would like to directly inform your child's Year 3 teacher about, please make use of the new parents meeting that will be available to you in the summer term.
Year 6 Transition
The move from Year 6 to secondary school brings new opportunities, challenges, and a wave of emotions. Rest assured, our experienced teaching and inclusion team are here to guide and support your child through this exciting transition. We understand that each student is unique, and we are committed to recognising and addressing their individual needs during this period of change.
Some children will fully embrace the move to their secondary school and the PSHE lessons alongside specific secondary transition lessons and activities will be enough to prepare them for their new journey. For some children, additional transition sessions may be provided by their new secondary schools, especially to support children with SEND. Whilst not all secondary schools offer this additional support, where it is available, Auriol's Inclusion Team and Year 6 teaching team will contact you if we feel your child is in need of this support. There are a limited number of places available so please enquire if this is something you think your child will need.
