Mathematics
Maths at Auriol is focused on securing basic number knowledge and skills to be able to move on to develop a deep and lasting understanding of more complex mathematical concepts and skills. Children need to explore and secure their basic number knowledge at the bottom of the climbing frame before they can venture higher up to master more challenging concepts.
We encourage children to build on their concrete, pictorial and abstract levels of understanding through the use of manipulatives and a range of formal written methods. Learning is meaningfully linked to the real world, encouraging exploration, critical thinking and problem-solving.
Fluency and accuracy in number are developed across the school through daily speedy maths, maths lessons, times table rockstars and flip learning which consolidates classroom learning. Our maths curriculum is progressive and interconnected, preparing our pupils to exceed their expectations and to meet the challenges of a changing world with confidence and resilience.
