Art & Design Technology
Art and Design at Auriol provides our children with the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form. It fires their imagination and is a fundamental means of personal expression.
Armed with skills, knowledge of materials and appreciation of different artists, children have the freedom to explore their own ideas. They produce art confidently with the knowledge that there is no right or wrong and that making mistakes is an important part of the creative process. By learning this way, they develop a resilient attitude, confidence in creativity and love of art, which they can carry through to secondary school and beyond.
Children are taught the basic principles of Design Technology: Design, Make, Test and Evaluate. They learn how to think independently, be resourceful, innovative and enterprising.
We look at the user, the purpose, functionality, innovation and authenticity with an emphasis on designing real products for real people and addressing real problems.
They learn to evaluate their work to ensure a better future outcome and to work collaboratively either in small groups or as a class. Throughout their time at Auriol, they will develop their creative, technical and practical expertise to enhance their understanding of structures and mechanical systems and to enable them to solve real and relevant problems.
